The linden tree has played a significant role in European culture for millennia, from the dwelling place of Freya to location of judicial decrees—to a place of song and dance. Some linden trees, called Tanzlinde (dance linden in German), were fashioned into raised dancing platforms, particularly in the region of present-day Germany where several can still be visited today.
